Valentine Door Hanger

I love to have a new wreath or decoration for my front door for each season or special holiday…it is just something I enjoy doing to great family and friends at our house. With Valentine’s Day not too far off, I decided to get a jump start on a few projects. Inspired from an idea I saw on Pinterest, I chose to use our Heart Ornaments Set of 3 (#62985) to create a quick and easy project that anyone could make.

Here is what you will need:
DecoArt Americana Paint:
Cherry Red
Bubblegum Pink
Light Buttermilk

Additional Supplies:
Identi Pen Black
Darice Fine Line Paint Pen Set
Sanding Pads

First, start by lightly sanding both sides of your heart ornaments. Wipe off dust with a cloth. Paint two hearts Cherry Red, and one Bubblegum Pink. Let dry completely and then lightly sand. Wipe off dust, and apply a second coat of paint. Let dry.

For the Light Buttermilk rectangles, for the “Happy” and “Day” the spaces are approx. 1″ x 3″ (this depends on your lettering, I based my measurement off of my own hand writing. You could even use additional chunks of wood to add more dimension when glued on). For the “Valentine” box, I drew the rectangle across almost the full width of the heart and made it approx 1″ as well. These boxes should be at slight angles. Lightly draw these on with a pencil, tape off all sides for the shape and paint with several coats of Light Buttermilk…making sure to let it dry completely between coats. I chose to hand write the words “Happy Valentine’s Day”, but you could stencil them on if you would like. I chose to use a black Identi Pen to do the lettering, and black stitch marks around the rectangles. The white stitch marks around the hearts is done with the White Paint Pen.

When dry, spray with your favorite varnish and glue the hearts together…add wire for hanging and add a jute or fabric bow for that finishing touch.

There you have it, a fun and quick project that you can paint in a matter of hours.

Happy Painting!
