Turkeys with a Touch of Gold

Painted resin turkeys

We have another turkey craft project for you! This one uses our Turkeys—Set of 2 #80840 that look like little pilgrims. I kept the painting simple on this one, even though the leaves/tail feathers were tempting to make more colorful. I found that when I tried to do that I wasn’t getting the effect I wanted, so instead I used similar colors on those areas to help mask mistakes.

Basic supplies and brushes:

Paints only used on the turkey with hat:

Paints only used on the turkey with head scarf:

Paints used on both:

I started by giving the turkey with hat‘s body and head with two coats of Spiced Pumpkin. Then I added random patches of Cadmium Orange to just the body. Next, I painted two coats of Camel onto all of the leaves/feathers areas and then used the Filbert Comb brush to add 24K Gold in a somewhat random way so that it had more gold on some feather areas than others. I also used 24K Gold on the trim of the hat, the beak, and the corn kernals. I used Bright Brass on just the corn husks. I finished by painting the collar and hat with four coats of Asphaltum, and then dotted the eyes.

I began painting the turkey with head scarf‘s body and head with two coats of Cadmium Red. Then I added random patches of Cadmium Orange just like the turkey with hat. Next, I painted two coats of Dusty Rose onto all of the leaves/feathers areas and then used the Filbert Comb brush to add Rose Gold in a somewhat random way so that it had more gold on some feather areas than others. I also used Rose Gold on the trim of the scarf, the beak, and the pumpkin. I finished by painting the head scarf with four coats of Asphaltum, and then dotted the eyes.
