The Artist’s Club is Closing

Unfortunately, due to changes in the tole painting market, we have decided to close the Artist’s Club. This was a difficult decision for our company, as the Artist’s Club was our original brand when we started 29 years ago. We hope that we can continue to serve and delight you over the next few months as we sell through our remaining paint, surfaces, books, patterns, and tools. We will continue to publish craft blog posts for a couple more weeks and hope that they will inspire you to go forth on your artistic journey.

  2. I am so sad to hear the news of you closing your doors. I’m still a painter and I love getting on your website and receiving your catalog seeing what new things there are. Hopefully decorative painting will not be a dying art, I love it so much.

  4. I’ve had the pleasure of being an in house designer with this amazing company for 5 years, and I’m truly saddened by the turn of events. No one really understands the why’s of such a decision, unless you’re directly involved. I trust that it was the best decision, and hope our paths cross once again. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to put my work “out there”! Good luck to you all, you will be missed. xo

  11. Very sad….I have been buying from Artists Club since about 1995 – everything Tole/Folk Art painting related. They were always my go-to. This is the third company I buy from that is closing….very sad indeed. You will be missed.

  13. I am truly devastated by the news of your closing! But, do understand that sometimes in life we have to move on to the next chapter. My best friend/paint teacher & I have ordered products from the AC for many years. I remember many years ago, shortly after the Papillon brushes came out and my husband surprised me for Christmas by purchasing the whole collection! My art teacher once told me “An artist is only as good as their brush.” I will also miss getting your catalogs & downloading your free patterns! Artist Club you ARE Loved and will REALLY be missed!!!

  17. Wow this makes me so sad to hear this , I’ve been buying from you fore years and was waiting for your Snowman to paint this Christmas. You have been myplace to go every time I needed crafts. I’ve been painting your resin for years for family and friends. I do not know where I will be able to purchase them now. You will really be missed because most of the craft stores do not carry them you are really making me sad as l do not drive anymore and you were a life saver to me!   21. Our industry has seen a lot of changes and decorative painting has been around for decades. Our younger people are not interested in the detailed paintings but want simple, child-like creations. They don’t adorn every wall in their homes with paintings. They want to create something in 3-4 hours…not spend days painting one facial feature or achieving a perfect tree! Classes are on the internet where you can stay home in your PJ’s, start/stop the class with the touch of a button, and still be with family. People are more family oriented. Mothers don’t reach out to “clubs” for their “me time” but try to involve the entire family into projects and entertainment. I’m predicting that in the next decade, these people will venture into more details in creating. Thus the circle of decorative painting returns. Most of us will have laid our brushes down due to medical conditions or for some, a place in Artist Heaven. My best to the staff at the Artists Club. Enjoy not having deadlines and having time for yourself. You’ve done a fantastic job in giving us great projects to create along with surfaces and supplies. The end is not here but the beginning of a new generation. Hugs to all!

  22. I had heard that a decorative art supply company was closing but not which one. I looked at a couple different sites (yours included) and everything seemed intact. Just tonight I am up late while everyone is sleeping and looked at the blog. OH NO !!! Not the Artist’s Club!!! I was wondering when your new Fall and Halloween patterns would be up. Guess there won’t be any! The last couple of years I have been teaching some of my grandaughters how to follow painting instructions, use patterns and paint things, like your wonderful resin pieces! I have purchased tons of stuff from you over the years. Love the Papillon brushes. Glad I bought a lot of those! I wish you all well on your art journeys. You will be sorely missed. I am sad!

  24. So very sorry to hear that you are closing. I had just found what I love doing from your company, Resin painting. I understand why you are closing . It is hard to keep going. Thank you for your wonderful packets that we were able to get. Is there any place on line that resins are sold with packets of suggestions on how to paint them?

  25. When I first start to paint back in the late 80’s and 90’s and till this day in 2019 this was the go to place for brushes and paints and the books and patterns. I even took a class or two from various artists over the years and meeting all the wonderful people that I came in contact with over the years. Yes, I will miss you and all the great people that worked for you over the many years. My heart is breaking tonight while order items that I am replacing and putting in a safe place to use for future uses. Thank you for being a great Company supporting the community of artists here in Vancouver, WA and the whole nation and many countries too. You will be missed for sure.

  27. Nooooo! This saddens me, my mother, my friend. We use your site to get paints and surfaces. It is hard to get paint colors and you always seem to have just what we need. Your catalog inspires us and now what. We love this site. Darn this new generation! They screwing with everything we love.

  30. I am so sorry to hear this news, having newly discovered your company via an Ebay advert. There is a huge market for art supplies as our aging population take up art as a hobby. Art supplies are my main purchases besides life essentials. Perhaps a new business model to compete with the current market could help you stay in business if that is of interest. I think Amazon is starting to kill off even fellow online businesses. This hurts businesses, the consumer and reduces our workforce. Your closing is very sad news for the art making community.

  31. This is sad. I remember the day I first heard the words “Artist Club”. I was at a craft show breaking down my display and complaining about how difficult it was for me to find painting supplies….particurally pattern books. The man who was set up next to me told me about the AC. That was way back before you were online when you relied on just the catalog to advertise. I no longer paint but the AC got me thru years and years of painting and I have found so many supplies and tools I would have never been able to find otherwise. I feel the AC is an instution in the decorative painting world that will be greatly missed but times change. The internet has made supplies so easy to find and I am sure that fact made it very difficult to keep the business afloat. Just know this….you will be missed and fondly remembered by many.

  32. I am very sad to hear this! You have serviced me well over the years . Even though I am close to big box stores that carry painting products, I have always enjoyed purchasing from Artists Club! I have loved that you give free pattern packets and have everything handy to complete that particular product. And although I haven’t been painting much lately, because ‘life’ got me busy, now that I am about to retire I plan to start up again but I will miss you guys very much! 😥
