Resin Sheep

Resin Sheep

I love our resin sheep, she is so cute with her body made out of flowers, and I love Sandra Malone’s design too. But for some reason I kept telling myself she would look cute painted in black, so with everyone here at the Artist’s Club telling me to do it, I decided to paint her black and then highlighted her with Slate Grey and Light Buttermilk with a highlighter brush.

Her head, arms and legs I painted Slate Grey too, which I did after all of the highlighting of her body. You might be thinking that painting her body will take forever, but really, with a deerfoot brush and plenty of black paint, she painted up quickly. You will need to do a few touch ups by turning her all directions, but she is worth it! The center of the flowers I used Terra Coral and French Vanilla to add additional interest after dry brushing on her highlights, after that, it is pretty much smooth sailing. I stepped out of my comfort zone and used colors that I typically don’t paint with for the watering can and base because I wanted a fresh spring took to her and I am pleased with how she turned out.

I can’t wait to display her this spring on my mantel. She was so fun and easy to paint, that I may want to paint another one in a lighter color too. But before that, I need to get to work on some of my UFO’s.

Happy Painting!
