My love for all things Americana stretches all year long, and painting new Americana themed projects comes easily to me. With Spring upon us and Summer just around the corner, it got me thinking of new patriotic themed projects.
The first of these projects is going to be on our Angel with Heart, she was so fun and easy to give that Americana flare to! I hope you love her as much as I do.
Here is what you will need:
DecoArt Americana Acrylics:
French Grey Blue
Deep Midnight Blue
Neons Fiery Red
Face and Hands – Mocha
Hair – Honey Brown
Dress – Uniform Blue, Sleeve trim and belt are Light Buttermilk
Lower Dress: Alternate sections with Country Red and Light Buttermilk
Collar: Country Red, trim is Light Buttermilk
Heart: Light Buttermilk, Country Red, and Deep Midnight Blue
Shade the face where the hair touches the face, under the chin and at the base of the neck where it meets the collar with Raw Sienna. Highlight the center of the face and neck with Light Mocha. The hands are shaded with Raw Sienna nest to the dress sleeves and where the hands come together. With Light Mocha the center of each hand. Shade the hair along the face and in the folds with Milk Chocolate, then highlight with Marigold.
With Midnite Blue shade around the collar, belt, cuffs and hands, heart, along the grooves of the arms and sleeves, and in the folds of the dress. Add highlights with French Grey Blue along the raised sections of the folds on the front and back, down the center of the sleeves and bust. The red portion of the collar is shaded around the edge with Black Plum and highlighted in the center with Neons Fiery Red. Shade the trim on the collar, belt and sleeve cuffs on the outside edges with Antique White, then highlight the centers with Snow White.
For the lower portion of the dress, I painted the entire area with Light Buttermilk, and then alternated with Country Red. Shade the Light Buttermilk sections with Antique White along the left and right sides of each stripe, highlight the center with Snow White. On the red stripes, shade with Black Plum down both sides and highlight the center with Neons Fiery Red. The etched seem I lined with Deep Midnight Blue. The stars on the dress are stenciled on with Light Buttermilk.
Now for the heart…I chose to paint the entire heart with Light Buttermilk first. Then with a pencil I sketched the section for the blue field and then divided the remainder into four sections for two white and two red stripes. I painted the field with Deep Midnight Blue, shaded the outside area with Soft Black and highlighted the center with French Grey Blue. The red stripes are Country red and I shaded the left and right sides with Black Plum and highlighted the center with Neons Fiery Red. The Light Buttermilk stripes are shaded and the sides with Antique White and highlighted in the center with Snow White. The star is stenciled with Light Buttermilk. The hanger is painted with Soft Black. For the finishing touches, line the blue filed and the stripes with Lamp Black.
